Care guide
Every piece is made to be loved for a long time. Pick your category below for simple do's, don'ts and storage tips.
Scrunchies
Fabric scrunchies stay soft, bouncy and pretty with a little gentle care.
Do
- Hand wash in cool water with a drop of mild detergent.
- Press the water out gently — don’t wring or twist.
- Dry flat in the shade, away from direct sun.
- Give the elastic a rest: don’t leave it stretched around thick hair all day.
Avoid
- Machine wash or tumble dry.
- Use bleach or strong stain removers.
- Iron directly — satin and velvet can mark or melt. If you must, iron on low from the reverse side.
- Yank it out of your hair; slide it off gently.
Storage: Loop it over a hook or your wrist, or keep it in a pouch so it holds its shape.
Jewellery
Fashion and gold-plated jewellery keeps its shine when it stays dry and lightly handled.
Do
- Put jewellery on last — after perfume, lotion and hair spray.
- Wipe with a soft dry cloth after every wear.
- Keep each piece in its own pouch or box so nothing scratches or tangles.
- For bead and stretch bracelets, roll them on gently instead of stretching them wide.
Avoid
- Wear it in the shower, pool or sea, or while working out and sleeping.
- Clean with toothpaste, alcohol or harsh chemicals.
- Leave it in a damp bathroom or in a hot car.
- Pull on chains, clasps or charms.
Storage: A cool, dry drawer or box. A small silica gel packet helps in humid weather.
Hair accessories
Clips, claws and bands last longest when they are not over-stretched or left damp.
Do
- Wipe with a slightly damp cloth, then dry straight away.
- Clear tangled hair out of the teeth and hinges after use.
- Open claw clips only as wide as you need.
- Keep them together in a pouch or small box.
Avoid
- Soak or rinse them under running water.
- Hold them against hot styling tools.
- Leave clips clamped shut with nothing in them — it weakens the spring.
- Force a clip over very thick hair.
Storage: In a pouch or box, away from heat and damp.
Crochet & handmade yarn pieces
Handmade crochet is delicate — a soft touch keeps the stitches neat and the shape true.
Do
- Hand wash gently in cool water with a mild soap, only when needed.
- Press out water in a towel, reshape, and dry flat.
- Snip loose threads with scissors instead of pulling them.
- Spot-clean small marks with a damp cloth.
Avoid
- Wring, twist or hang it wet — it will stretch out of shape.
- Machine wash, tumble dry or use bleach.
- Leave it in strong sun for long — colours can fade.
- Let it catch on rough surfaces, rings or Velcro.
Storage: Folded flat in a cool, dry place. Keep wool-based pieces away from moths.
Polaroids & photo prints
Photo prints are happiest kept flat, dry and out of the sun.
Do
- Hold prints by the edges with clean, dry hands.
- Keep them in an album, box or frame.
- Display away from direct sunlight, which fades colour.
- Use photo corners or washi tape on the border to stick them up.
Avoid
- Touch the picture surface — fingerprints are hard to remove.
- Use strong tape or glue on the front of the print.
- Let them get wet or leave them in a hot car.
- Bend them or stack heavy objects on top.
Storage: Flat in an album or box, in a cool, dry place.
Posters & art prints
A little care keeps poster colours bright and the paper smooth.
Do
- Frame behind glass or acrylic for the longest life.
- Hang away from direct sunlight and damp walls.
- Use poster putty, hanging strips or pins in the white border.
- If you store it, keep it flat or rolled loosely in a tube.
Avoid
- Fold it — creases never fully disappear.
- Put tape directly on the printed area.
- Wipe with a wet cloth.
- Hang it in a bathroom or kitchen where steam collects.
Storage: Flat in a folder, or rolled loosely in a tube, somewhere dry.
Magazines & journals
Paper keeps well when it is dry, flat and handled kindly.
Do
- Store upright on a shelf or flat in a drawer.
- Use a bookmark instead of folding corners.
- Wash and dry your hands before turning pages.
- Keep away from damp walls and windows.
Avoid
- Leave it in sunlight — covers fade and pages yellow.
- Stack heavy things on top.
- Use it near liquids or in a damp room.
- Force it flat if the spine is stiff.
Storage: On a dry shelf, upright or flat, out of direct sunlight.
